An archive: strict categories, professional selection, encyclopedia of entries and images; global visual culture is no longer like that. The daily multimedia tangle of visual representations is interwoven into a constant visual flow that can be made by almost anybody and spread through diverse communication channels. Merging the high and the low has been passé for decades; long live the Instagram!

How is the phenomenon of a traditional closed archive employed in contemporary visual arts? How are the possibilities of an all-embracing digital archive perceived by theory? Two talented guests; two views of the phenomenon of the archive in contemporary visual culture.
