Nicholas Mirzoeff: Visual Thinking in Dangerous Times

March 13, 2019

The present is both dangerous and saturated with visualizing technology from the drone to CCTV and Instagram. Many of these technologies create danger for the watched, even as social media can be a resource for the asylum seeker and the protestor. In this presentation, I will think through how to negotiate this interface from the point of view of the student, the citizen and the migrant, drawing on a range of examples from the controversies over monuments, to repatriating artworks and ‘taking a knee’ in the NFL.

Visit Nicholas Mirzoeff’s lecture, the first held in Prague, and celebrate with us publishing of the Czech translation of his popular and inspiring book How to See the World.
