» How (un)fair are new technologies?

The times of enchantment with the advent of new technologies seem irretrievably gone and visions of a democratic, universally interconnected and socially more just world of digital platforms sound like swan songs of the past. Do we live in an era of disenchantment and do we have to ask who can exist in the digital environment, when and how? How are new technologies impacted by social inequalities creating social division lines in physical space? To what extent can we speak about inclusivity with respect to the digital? How can we fight for a more just digital space and who can we actually turn to?

The Fresh Eye platform for visual culture studies has joined forces with Fotograf Festival during its #hypertension edition to offer to the local audiences a space for reflection and debate over the ethical questions related to the development and use of new technologies, with a particular focus on the functioning of artificial intelligence in its current forms.

The guests of the discussion panel will be Ramak Molavi Vasse’i, a researcher and lawyer in the field of digital rights, who will be joined in the debate by Juraj Hvorecký, a philosopher and representative of the international research platform CETE-P, and Dita Malečková, a new media philosopher. The debate, which will be open to questions from the audience, will be moderated by economic and labour anthropologist Martin Tremčinský.

Admission to the discussion is free. The programme will be held in English without translation in the Lecture Hall of the Exhibition Palace of the National Gallery in Prague.
